New residents and some more..

Our smallest and tallest residents, Sicelo (left) and Mluleki, on the right, who has joined us as a permanent resident in February, are carting mulching grass to our different gardens- where the women and female residents are awaiting them.

Nomfundiso, our first day-care visitor (joined in February 10), is watering the herb garden. To her left a Mango tree, which we planted in our first year at Ikhaya Loxolo; its size always reminds us of our first steps towards creating this home and how far we’ve come since then (2005).

Another resident, Nandi, is presently weeding (truly her favourite job!) the very special, quite newly planted Rumanian sweet paprika, which we are growing for the first time at Ikhaya Loxolo. For us Germans, sweet Paprika is a very important spice/ingredient in our diet; to the locals it is completely unknown- salt is the only commonly used spice here. Once these paprikas are ready to be harvested and dried, we will find out whether the locals will find a liking to it….
